R40First bridge pontic

Official Dutch titleEerste brugtussendeel

First pontic in a bridge.

In plain language

R40 is the first pontic in a bridge.

A pontic fills a space in a bridge construction. R40 is the NZa line for the first pontic; later pontics use a different additional code.

What does R40 show?

  • The first pontic in a bridge.
  • The code names one component of a bridge construction, not automatically the whole journey around it.

How do you read multiple pontics?

  • For every next pontic in the same bridge section, the NZa lists R45 as an additional performance.
  • R40 or R45 may also appear for a bridge on implants.

Useful when reading an invoice

  • Read R40 next to the other crown and bridge lines to see which components appear together.
  • A bridge line alone does not say which decision was discussed; the treatment plan provides that context.
