Anaesthesia

A10Conduction, infiltration and/or intraligamentary anaesthesia

Official Dutch titleVerdoving

Anaesthesia within the conditions of the NZa performance description.

In plain language

A10 is the local anaesthesia line — with specific counting rules per area or tooth.

A10 covers conduction, infiltration and intraligamentary anaesthesia. The NZa describes both the performance and how often it may be registered in different situations.

How is A10 counted?

  • For conduction or infiltration in the lower jaw: per block.
  • In the upper jaw: per two adjacent teeth; the midline is the boundary.
  • For the lower front: per two adjacent teeth between the canines.
  • Intraligamentary, intraosseous or intrapulpal anaesthesia: per tooth.

Important combination rule

  • A10 may not be charged separately with surgical performances in chapter H.
  • Surface anaesthesia A15 may only be charged when it is not followed by A10.

Useful when reading an invoice

  • The number of A10 lines follows an NZa counting rule; it does not by itself indicate the complexity of treatment.
  • If context is missing, ask the practice which area or teeth a registered line refers to.
